Searching

The CPS databases for Brooks on the homepage for the library are a great place to start your research. These sources pass all of the CARRDSS tests. Most will also give you your source citations in MLA, APA, and Chicago style formats.
WolframAlpha This is an answer engine, giving answers to factual questions. You will not get narrative answers or lists of documents or articles, but for quick answers relating to data, this is the place to go. Google advanced search and Google Scholar While doing a simple search will bring you an amazing number of hits, using the advanced search will allow you to refine your answers by date, domain, and language. You can also search by phrase and using and, or and not to further refine the search. Google Scholar will limit your search to authoritative articles and books. |
Created by teachers, Gooru is a unique search engine that allows you to create your own research collections with your annotations and save them on the site. Resources include articles, images, videos and other multimedia. Students 13 and over may create accounts.

The National Archives Digital Vault offers a wealth of historical images, photos and film-clips. Search for an image and related images and artifacts will circle around. A tray at the bottom lets you select the images you want to save and put in a presentation.

Put all of your online research in one online space. LiveBinders will keep all of your articles and webpages in neatly organized binders. These are not links, but the entire page! You can also make sub-pages for each subject or project. Pretty cool.

Diigo is a social networking website that allows you to bookmark, highlight and attach sticky notes to websites you collect for your research. Individual lists can then be made public and shared. |
